Materials & care

Stoneware, oxides, and fire.

Honest materials, high-fired to last a lifetime of daily use.

Clay

Every piece is thrown from high-fired stoneware — speckled or grey, depending on the piece. Fired to temperature, the clay becomes dense and vitreous: hard, water-tight, and food-safe.

Glazes

Glazes are mixed by hand from mineral oxides — iron, copper, and ash. They are lead-free and food-safe on every surface that meets food or drink. Because the kiln has the last word, colour and movement vary from piece to piece; that is the nature of the work, not a fault.

Care

The mark

Every piece is stamped underneath with the mark of the bottega — a small pot holding the soul, anima in terra.
